Kenneth R. Becker, 86, of DeWitt, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2017 at The Grand in Chittenango. Born October 31, 1930 in Syracuse, he was the son of the late Kenneth H. and Dorothy L. Zimmer Becker. He was a graduate of Nottingham High School and received his Bachelor’s degree from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. Mr. Becker was a Staff Sergeant with the US Army during the Korean War. For 30 years, Kenneth was a Landscape Architect and a Project Engineer with Sargent, Webster, Crenshaw & Folley in Syracuse. This firm was responsible for the design of the 1980 Olympic Bobsled Run in Lake Placid, along with many other well-known local venues. He later worked part-time with Reimann-Buechner in Syracuse. Kenneth was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed woodworking, gardening and golf. He also enjoyed summer vacation trips with his family. He is survived by his sister, Nancy (Stanley) Raflowski of Baldwinsville. Also by two children, David (Deborah) Becker and their daughter, Adrienne of East Syracuse and Diane Becker and her children, Brandon, Zachary and Dylan of Tampa, FL. Two step children, Lynda Kuhry of Lyncourt and Polly (Mike) Moore and their children, Patrick, Peter and Douglas of Rochester. Also, John (Ellen) Raflowski of Baldwinsville, and Susan (Dan) Funseth of Las Vegas, NV; and many other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Alice Pairman Becker; and his second wife, Nancy Kuhry Becker. Services will be Tuesday at 4 pm at the Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel, 3690 Erie Blvd East. Calling hours will be from 2-4, prior to the service. Spring interment will be in DeWitt Cemetery. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff and nurses of The Grand in Chittenango for the great care in making Kenneth comfortable before his passing as well as the staff of Brookdale in Manlius.
