Elda P. Ernst, 96, formerly of Minoa, passed peacefully into eternal life at The Jewish Home in Syracuse on Tuesday, March 21, 2017. She was born in Jamesville, NY, to parents Roman and Flora (Vicellio) DaRin, who immigrated from northern Italy. After graduating from Nottingham High School and Powelson Business Institute, Elda worked at Crouse Hinds and Bristol Laboratories, locally. She left her job at Bristol to marry her husband, Eugene, now deceased, and to live in Sacramento, California, and Colorado Springs, Colorado. Elda and Eugene subsequently returned East to live in Minoa, residing there for 56 years. Elda was also predeceased by her two brothers and their wives, Emil (Margaret) DaRin and Arthur (Gladys) DaRin; and brother- and sister-in-law, Donald and Louise Ernst. Elda, known for her baking and sewing skills, enjoyed travelling and was an avid follower of politics and natural-health studies. She was a devout Christian and was a member of the United Methodist Church of Minoa. Surviving are her daughters, Sandra (John) Romagnoli, of East Syracuse and Bonnie Ernst, of Palatine, IL; a brother, Raymond (Shirley) DaRin, of Fairport, NY; two sisters-in-law, Mary Emily (William) Simmons, of NJ, and Ivon (Donald) Butman, of MI; and several nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours. A private memorial service will be held at the family’s convenience at the Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel. The family would like to thank the multitudes of staff members at the Inn of Menorah Park and the Jewish Home for their care, compassion, and companionship during Elda’s five-year’s residence there. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church of Minoa or the Foundation at Menorah Park.
