Frances Ann (Mortas) Traver, of DeWitt, passed away at the age of 83. She was born December 27, 1934 in Syracuse, was a graduate of Solvay High School and had been employed by Carrier Corporation as a secretary for over 40 years. She was a long-time communicant of Holy Cross Church in Dewitt.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 34 years Darwin Traver; her parents, Ludwik and Frances Mortas; and her sisters, Irene Mortas, Dorothy (Mortas) Moore, Helen (Mortas) Tobin and Genevieve “Gennie” Mortas.
Frances and Darwin enjoyed their lengthy travels together throughout Europe, the United States, Canada, and various other places. They both were photography enthusiasts and often showed their slides at various family gatherings.
Frances also loved art, good books, and yard work both at her home and at the family home where she spent long hours, planting, trimming and setting up little statues here and there. She loved flowers and enjoyed making floral arrangements to give to others as gifts, and she faithfully cared for all the family gravesites as a promise to her mother.
Frances was also a long-time caretaker for her younger sister, Emilia, now residing in a nursing facility. She would try to visit her every single day to keep her abreast of family news.
She is survived by her brother, Ludwik “Louis” and (Harriet Kot) Mortas, Syracuse; her sisters, Evelyn Mortas, Camillus, Patricia Piperno, Union Springs, Mary (David) Chase, Dallas, TX, Emilia Mortas, Syracuse, Margaret Cook, Watertown and Suzanne Brown, Severna Park, MD; and stepchildren, Anita (Jeff) Scott and family, and Dr. Jamie (Peg Conan) Traver and family; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, April 3, at Holy Cross Church, 4112 E Genesee Street, Dewitt. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt. Calling hours will be Monday, April 2, from 4-7 pm at Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel, 3690 Erie Boulevard East, DeWitt.
