Obituary of Eleanor Gocklin

Eleanor “Ellie” Gocklin, 78, a resident of the Parkrose Estates Senior Community in Liverpool for the past several years, formerly of Baldwinsville, passed away Monday, May 16, 2016 at Crouse Hospital.

She was born March 25, 1938, in Syracuse, the daughter of the late, Joseph and Elizabeth McConkey Gocklin and was a graduate of Central High School. Ellie was incredibly intelligent and was employed right out of high school with the New York Telephone Co., retiring in 1988. She worked her way up in the company to her last position as an engineer, of which she was very proud.

Ellie loved to travel. She traveled to Hawaii many times and enjoyed Las Vegas as well. She was an avid reader and enjoyed doing puzzles.

She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and was a former member of the Ground Observer Corps of the Air Defense Command.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews; and her longtime friend and caregiver, Julie Cooper. Ellie was predeceased by four sisters, Betty Luke, Josephine Wells, Roberta Kaufman and Laura Youker.

Funeral services will be Friday at 6 pm at the Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel, 3690 Erie Blvd East, DeWitt. A calling hour will be held Friday from 5-6, prior to the service. Private interment will be in White Chapel Memory Gardens, DeWitt.
