Obituary of Mary Ann Meyer
Mary Ann Meyer, 82, of DeWitt, died on December 14, 2016 at the Iroquois Nursing Home in Jamesville. The daughter of Charles W. Sawyer and Marion May Sawyer of Shaker Heights, Ohio, she attended Wheaton College in Massachusetts and Flora Stone Mather College of Western Reserve University in Cleveland, from which she received a bachelor’s degree. She was married in 1957 to Dr. John A. Meyer and, after living in Cleveland and Ann Arbor, Michigan, she moved to Syracuse in 1962 with her husband and their two sons. A member of Park Central Presbyterian Church in Syracuse, she served as its Director of Christian Education and its archivist. For a number of years she was Coordinator of Cooperative Campus Ministry of Central New York, and she served as Moderator of the Cayuga-Syracuse Presbytery. She earned an M.L.S. from Syracuse University’s School of Information Sciences, and was the author of Campus Ministry in the 21st Century: A New Model (1994). She was a longtime member of the Portfolio Club of Syracuse.
Surviving are a brother, W. Todd Sawyer of Rockport, Massachusetts; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. John D. Meyer and Nina Harkrader of Brooklyn, NY, and their daughter; and a son, William B. Meyer of Hamilton, NY. Her longtime husband, John A. Meyer, died in 2010.
A memorial service will be held in the new year.
