Obituary of Robert Oliver
Robert Oliver, of the Valley in Syracuse, passed away after a short illness on Saturday, March 25th at Upstate University Hospital Community Campus. Born April 6, 1922 in Dumbarton, Scotland, he emigrated to the United States at the age of 7 with his mother and father, living in Newark, NJ until moving to Syracuse in 1937. A veteran of WWII, upon returning home, he married Jean Pendray and began his career at Carrier International Corporation. He attended Syracuse University on the GI Bill and graduated in 1956 with a degree in accounting. He retired from Carrier in 1987 and that same year became marketing-sales director of Baco Controls Company, a position he held until he was 81 years old. An avid golfer, he was also an ardent fan of Syracuse University football and basketball, and New York Yankees' baseball. In addition, he was a very active member in his church community.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Jean. He is survived by his son James, and daughter-in-law, Bonnie; his grandsons, Robert and William (Jessica); and his great-grandson, Bram.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 1st at 9:30 AM at the Episcopal Church of St. Mark the Evangelist, 1612 W. Genesee St., Syracuse. There are no calling hours. The family will be pleased to meet friends immediately following the service, where a lite luncheon will be served. Interment will follow in Oakwood Morningside Cemetery.
