Obituary of Aileen Nowak
Aileen Margaret (Burlingham) Nowak, 93, of Fayetteville, New York passed away on October 11, 2017 in Guilderland, New York, near Albany, where she resided for many years near her son and daughter. Aileen was born in the sewing room of her parents’ home in McGraw, New York to Truman Peet Burlingham of McGraw and Margaret Boyd Downie of Shawlins, Scotland.
Aileen attended the District Five Elementary School, which was a one-room schoolhouse. After graduating from McGraw High School, she attended The College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio where she graduated in 1945 with a BA in Sociology and Psychology. At Wooster Aileen was a member of the Pi Kappa “Peanuts” Sorority and Women’s Chorus. She met her future husband, Donald G. Nowak, during his U.S. Navy training in Wooster.
After graduation from college, Aileen worked in administration at the Goodyear Tire Company in Akron, Ohio. Following their marriage in 1946, Donald and Aileen moved to Syracuse, New York where she worked in the Admissions Office of Syracuse University. Once she became a mother, her full time job became raising and caring for her family.
Aileen was a member of the Corinthian Club and DeWitt Community Church.
Aileen was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Donald. She is survived by her son Tim Nowak and daughter Donna (Paul) Nowak-Hughes of Albany and granddaughter Amanda Nowak of DeWitt.
