Jane K. Christiansen, 88, of Manlius, passed away peacefully on Saturday at Crouse Hospital with her family by her side. Born in Akron, Ohio on August 15, 1930, she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from San Diego State College in 1953 and her Master’s Degree in Geography from Syracuse University in 1973. She taught first grade in California for three years, and worked part time as a homebound teacher for the Syracuse City Schools from 1972-1977. Jane was also in charge of the housekeeping department at Castle Rest Nursing Home for 16 years from 1977-1993. After retiring from full time work in 2009 as a secretary and bookkeeper at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, she volunteered at St. Lucy’s Food Pantry and was active in the Syracuse branch of the Taoist Tai Chi Society. Jane was a parishioner at All Saints Church. She was predeceased by her parents, Elinore and Dan’l Pollock, her father, Raymond Kitchingman and her sister, Carol Morris.
Jane is survived by her children, William (Chi Suk) Christiansen of Barstow, CA, Carol Christiansen of Fayetteville, Eric (Martha) of Spring Grove, PA and Ann (Tim) McArdell of Phoenix, NY; two sisters, Teri DeLaFleur and Lin Pollock both of Alexandria, VA; four grandchildren, Brian, Amy, Erica and Erin; and five great grandchildren, Dylan, Ellie, Abigail, Ethan and Ezra; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday 11 a.m. at All Saints Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt. A calling hour will be held on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church before the funeral mass, 1342 Lancaster Ave, Syracuse.
