Erna Anton, 103, of Fayetteville, NY passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on Sunday, June 2, 2019.
Born February 15, 1916 in Estonia, she fled the war in 1944 and arrived with Family to the United States in 1949 through Germany following five years of uncertainty that included time in a Displaced Persons Camp.
Mrs. Anton dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and spent much of her time with friends, reading and gardening. She was a proud member of the Estonian Community in Syracuse. Although Erna was grateful for the opportunity to visit Estonia following re-independence, she was always deeply appreciative of her welcoming into the United States and loved the Syracuse area and all of the wonderful opportunities she had as an American.
Erna was married for over 60 years to Walter Anton, who passed away in 1996. She is survived by her daughter Viive (Heiti); her son Aarne (Tina); five grandchildren, Star, Heidi, Willi, Heikki and Kalev; and two great-grandchildren, Bodie and Luke.
Private funeral services at Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel will be followed by interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Syracuse.
