James Oliver, of the Valley in Syracuse, passed away with family by his side on Thanksgiving Day at New York Presbyterian Hospital from complications after lung transplant surgery. Born August 31, 1949 in Syracuse, he graduated from Onondaga Central High in 1967 and the Syracuse University School of Architecture in 1972. He married Bonnie Bex that same year, and went to work for RSA Architects, where he had a long and successful career, becoming a partner and retiring in 2018. An avid golfer, he was also a dedicated fan of SU football and basketball, and New York Yankees baseball. He was also a very active member of his church community.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Bonnie. He is survived by his sons, William and Robert; his daughters-in-law, Jessica and Meghann; and his grandchildren, Bram and Faye.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 7th at 10:30 am at the Episcopal Church of St. Mark the Evangelist, 1612 W. Genesee St., Syracuse. There are no calling hours. The family will be pleased to meet friends immediately following the service, where a light luncheon will be served. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Syracuse.
