Elsa Robertson of Syracuse, 98, passed away Thursday night, January 30, 2020 at the Van Duyn Center for Rehabilitation & Nursing, after a long battle with dementia. Elsa was born in Uszballen, Germany on January 18, 1922 to Christoph and Maria Jenkeleit. After completing her schooling, she immigrated to New York, and became an America citizen in May of 1956. As one of the former owners of the DeWitt Easy Wash Laundromat in DeWitt, she loved to sing, especially in the choir at the DeWitt Community Church in the late 1970’s to early 1980’s, and to travel. Elsa and her late husband, George enjoyed many trips to their once owned home at the Trapp Family Lodge in Vermont. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Ursula Jenkeleit; nephew, Ralph (Heide) Jenkeleit; nieces, Karin (Robert) Schwab, and Anita (George) Giuliani; and several great nephews and nieces. Elsa is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Wilbur Distin; her second husband, George Robertson; two sisters, Herta Klebingat and Emmy Jenkeleit; two brothers, Harry and Manfred Jenkeleit; nephew, Norman Jenkeleit; niece, Brigitte Litzgendorf; and sister-in-law, Marianne Jenkeleit. A private Mass and burial in DeWitt Cemetery will be held in her memory. Arrangements are with Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel.
