Shirley A. Rice, 80, of East Syracuse, formerly of Jamesville, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 9, 2020 at her home. She was born July 3, 1939, in Syracuse, the daughter of the late Loreto and Carolina Martini D’Orazio and was a graduate of Jamesville-DeWitt High School. Shirley loved spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed cooking, especially Italian food, entertaining at home, making ceramics and Elvis Pressley. She was predeceased by her husband, Gilbert W. Rice; and two daughters, Jacqueline Rice and Sandra Chase. She is survived by her daughter, Trisha Rice of Boca Raton, FL; her sister, Phyllis Wright of Jamesville; her brother, Lawrence (Dawn) D’Orazio of Jamesville; her son-in-law, Stephen Chase of Chittenango; three grandchildren, Jordan Huegel of Rochester, Ashley (Paul) Kloster of Colorado Springs, CO and Shelby Chase of Fargo, ND; nieces, nephews and many cousins. Due to current circumstances, a private graveside service will be held Wednesday at St. Mary’s Cemetery in DeWitt. A celebration of her life will take place at another date and time. Arrangements are with Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel.
