Jeanne H. Kirkman, 90, of East Syracuse, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2020 at Iroquois Nursing Home. Her loving husband of 71 years, Frank Kirkman was at her side. The couple were roommates at Iroquois. Jeanne was from Long Island, daughter of John and Ethel Hirst. She was born and raised in Little Neck, where she met Frank. They raised their family in East Northport, NY. When Frank retired in 1984, the couple moved to Cedar Mountain, NC where they had a wonderful retirement. They moved to East Syracuse in 2019 to be close to family. On Long Island, Jeanne was an administrative assistant for the Red Cross, administrated a ballet school, worked for the Huntington Arts Council and was a Travel Agent. After moving to North Carolina, Jeanne became a real estate agent in the Brevard, NC area until her own retirement. Jeanne was an eternal optimist always looking at the best in circumstances and saw the best in people. She treated everyone she met with respect and kindness; having an abiding and genuine interest in their well-being. Wherever she went or worked, she made good friends easily and kept in contact with them over the years. Jeanne is survived by her children, Kenneth Kirkman (Karen Jastrem) and Kim Kirkman (Hamilton Gillespie); five grandchildren, Father Kenneth Kirkman of Endicott, NY, Matthew Kirkman, Kathleen Kirkman both of Los Angeles, CA, Christopher Gillespie of Seattle, WA, Robert Gillespie of Dallas, TX and Dr. Sawyer Gillespie (Hilary) of Seattle WA; and great grandchild, Alexander (Sasha). The Kirkman Family would like to thank the staff and management at Iroquois Nursing Home for the excellent, loving care they provided to Jeanne, as well as continued care for Frank. Due to state government Covid-19 restrictions; services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are with Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel.
