Obituary of Margaret LaCombe
Margaret E. (Peggy) LaCombe, 84, of Jamesville, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2018 at The Nottingham Residential Health Care Facility, with her family by her side.
She was born February 25, 1934, in Syracuse, the daughter of the late George and Mary (O’Herin) Sperry. She received her primary education in Eastwood, her Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies from LeMoyne College and her Master’s degree in Education from Syracuse University. Mrs. LaCombe was an elementary teacher at Park Hill School and the East Syracuse Minoa School District. She later worked for more than 20 years as a social worker for the Onondaga County Department of Social Services Child Protective Agency.
Margaret was a parishioner of Holy Cross Church and served on the funeral committee. She was a member of the Jamesville-DeWitt PTA and Sports Boosters Club and was also a Girl Scout Leader.
Margaret was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She and her husband, Don loved to travel and take cruises. They spent a number of winters at their condo in Murrell’s Inlet, SC., and enjoyed time playing bridge with friends and the Jonathan Craig neighborhood supper club.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Donald J. LaCombe; four children, Kathleen Dinsmore of Murrell’s Inlet, SC, David (Marjorie) LaCombe of DeWitt, Dr. Michael (Laura) LaCombe of Manlius and Amy LaCombe (Erica Graf) of Wellesley, MA; and eight grandchildren, Charles and Joseph Dinsmore, Daniel and Nina LaCombe, Matthew and George LaCombe, and William and James LaCombe Graf. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Anne Roy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 9 am at Holy Cross Church, DeWitt. Interment will follow in White Chapel Memory Gardens, DeWitt. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5-8 pm at Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel, 3690 Erie Blvd East, DeWitt.
Margaret’s family would like to thank everyone at the Nottingham for the excellent care and love they provided during these last couple of years. You always brought a smile to her face.
