Obituary of Virginia Yeager

Virginia Will Yeager, 95, died peacefully on July 22, 2018 in her Manlius home. Daughter of Howard C. Will, President of Will and Baumer Candle Company, and Charlotte Clark Will (Buckley), she was a direct descendent of Stephen Hopkins of the Mayflower. She attended Goodyear Burlingame School, Rosemary Hall and Syracuse University where she joined Alpha Phi sorority. With the outbreak of WW II, she joined the war effort, and was married to Eugene R. Yeager, a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy.  Ginger was a member of Park Central Presbyterian Church, the Junior League, the Visiting Nurse Association, Monday Book Club and several other organizations. She was devoted to her community, family, friends and beloved pets. She especially enjoyed spending summers at Westerlea, her parents’ home on Skaneateles Lake.

She is survived by her two daughters, Karen and Charlotte Yeager; two grandchildren, William and Carrie Chaires; brother-in-law, William Porter; nephews, Richard (Mindy) Burdick and William (Diana) Porter; nieces, Elizabeth (Sean) Murphy and Melissa Porter; great-grandchildren, Cavan, Morgan, Lily, Will, Devon, and Emma Chaires, J. Nicholas Guild; and one great-great grandson, Wyatt Higgins. She was pre-deceased by her parents; sisters, Joyce W. Burdick and Carol W. Porter; brother, Howard A. Will; daughter, Carol J. Yeager; and son, Eugene R. Yeager, Jr.

The family wishes to express special gratitude to Lisa Okhota and her daughter, Marta, who provided Mrs. Yeager with eleven years of companionship and devoted care.

A memorial service will be held at Park Central Presbyterian Church, 504 E. Fayette St., Syracuse on Tuesday, July 31st at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Eugene R. Yeager, Jr. ’75 Memorial Scholarship Fund at Clarkson University, online at www.clarkson.edu/giving or mailed to Clarkson University Development Operations, Box 5510, Potsdam, NY  13699.
