Obituary of Marguerite Mersereau
Marguerite Vaughan Rounds Mersereau, 88, of DeWitt, passed away Saturday, August 11, 2018 at her home, with her family by her side.
She was born January 22, 1930, in Sunbury, PA, the daughter of the late Ralph and Marguerite Vaughan Rounds. She received her BA degree from Harper College in Endicott, NY and her MA degree from Cornell University Graduate School in Ithaca, NY. For many years, she was a School Social Worker with Jamesville-DeWitt Central School.
Surviving are her husband of 65 years, Bertram S. “Bert” Mersereau; three children, Stephen S. (Kathryn Adair) Mersereau of Park City, UT, Bradford P. (Margaret) Mersereau of Clarence Center, NY and Julie V. (Stephen Romocki) Mersereau of Penfield, NY; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Peggy was predeceased by her daughter, Krista K. Mersereau; and her sister, Nancy R. Westfall.
Mrs. Mersereau was a member of DeWitt Community Church and was active in multiple civic organizations throughout the community. She was selfless in her generosity to those in need, and those with whom she interacted in all aspects of her life.
Peggy had a great love for music throughout her life and was an accomplished pianist. She was an avid skier, braving the cold and snow until she was 85 years old. Peggy also loved to swim whenever she had a chance, especially in the waters of Skaneateles Lake where she could be found long distance swimming along the shoreline with her white bathing cap bobbing through the water. She will be remembered for her tenacious spirit, her lovely smile and the love that embraced so many.
Her Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 11:00 am. at DeWitt Community Church, 3600 Erie Blvd East, DeWitt. Calling hours will be Friday September 21, 2018 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. at Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel, 3690 Erie Blvd East, DeWitt, NY 13214. Interment will be at DeWitt Cemetery.
