Obituary of Joseph M. Zalewski

Joseph M. Zalewski, 73, died Saturday, April 13, 2019.  Joe was a lifelong resident of Jamesville, NY.  He was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Patricia (Lynch) who passed away in April 2010.  Joe is survived by his daughters, Karen (Cody) Gummoe of Pompey, NY, Teresa (Jim) Stevens of Altmar, NY, Susan (Dahel) Griswold of N. Myrtle Beach, SC, and Pamela (Dan) Gingrich of Waxhaw, NC; brother, Merton (Michele) Zalewski of Jamesville, NY; sisters, Janeen (John) Latocha of Pompey, NY and Alma (Alfred) White of Syracuse, NY; and grandchildren, Samantha Traxler, Alyssa Stevens, Adam Stevens, Jarrett Gummoe, Delaney Gingrich, Ella Gingrich and Erin Gingrich.

Joe was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing, as well as camping in the Adirondacks with this family and friends.  His passion for NASCAR began as a young man when he would spend time at the dirt tracks, where he learned his apt for mechanics.  He retired from Ryder Truck Rental in 2007 as a diesel mechanic.  He was a member of the Jamesville Sportsman Club and was a founding member of the 100 Acre Hunting Club in the Adirondacks.

Calling hours will be held at the Fairchild & Meech Dewitt Chapel, 3690 Erie Blvd E, DeWitt, NY on Saturday, April 20, 2019 from 9 - 10:30 a.m. followed by a prayer service.  A private burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery with immediate family will follow.  A celebration of his life will be held at the Jamesville Fire Department from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday as well.
