Obituary of Isabel F. Cummings

Isabel (Liz) F. Cummings of DeWitt, New York died peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital on April 23, 2019 after a short illness.

Liz was born in Carleton Place, Ontario, Canada and was the daughter of Laurel (Sergeant) and Daniel Lynch. She relocated to Central New York as a young woman and began a successful banking career with Chase Bank, where she worked for more than 30 years, retiring in 2000 as a Vice President and Branch Review Officer. She was a graduate of Onondaga Community College and LeMoyne College and the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University.

Liz met her husband Raymond W. Cummings, Jr. in 1987 and, after a six-year courtship, they were engaged in November 1992 and married on June 4, 1994, establishing their residence in the Town of DeWitt. Liz proudly became a U.S. Citizen in July 20, 1993.

During her working career, Liz was active in the American Institute of Banking and as an adjunct faculty member of the Onondaga Community College Business Administration Department where she taught a Principles of Banking Course to aspiring bankers for many years. In 1997, Liz was honored for her banking achievements in New York City by the Chase Bank All Star Salute program. She also served as a Meals on Wheels volunteer and was a member of the Onondaga Golf and Country Club.

With her husband Ray, Liz enjoyed SU sports and attended SU football and basketball games for many years. She was an avid New York Yankees (and Derek Jeter) fan, rarely missing any games that were televised. She loved to travel with her husband, and her travels included trips to Hawaii (where she and Ray honeymooned), the Caribbean, Florida, Italy, the Canadian Maritimes and many memorable trips to various cities in the U.S. Also included were yearly trips to Ontario, Canada to visit family members.

Liz had a heart of gold and loved visiting with her close friends. She loved to entertain, and for years hosted summer and Christmas parties at her home in DeWitt. And most of all, she especially enjoyed lunches with her lady friends at her home or at the Red Lobster. She was always available to talk to and her cheery personality and everlasting love will be missed by all but always remembered and never forgotten.

She was predeceased by her mother and father and 10 brothers and sisters.

Surviving, in addition to her loving husband Ray; are her two cats, Poppy and Cooper, who she dearly loved and adored. She is also survived by family members in Canada including, Marian Lynch of Sudbury, Ontario; Daniel and Bernice Barnabe (children Konor, Jordan and Hannah) of Ottawa, Ontario; Brian Lynch of Carleton Place, Ontario; Deborah McGregor (children Dayna and Dan) of Winnipeg, Manitoba; and many nieces and nephews. Surviving family members in the U.S include, Stuart and Pamela Cummings (children Scott, Thomas and Caitlin) of Pompano Beach, Florida; and David and Susan Cummings (children David, Laura and Aubree) of Cibolo, Texas.

The family would like to especially thank the DeWitt police and fire department for their assistance and support and the wonderful doctors and nurses at St. Joseph’s Hospital for their ongoing support and extraordinary and compassionate care.

In accordance with Liz’s request, there will be no calling hours and services will be private at Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel, DeWitt.   Burial will be in the Fayetteville Cemetery.
