Jacqueline Manier

Obituary of Jacqueline Kingsbury Manier

Jacqueline Kingsbury Manier passed away on Monday, March 2, 2020, at the Nottingham Senior Living Community. She was the only child of John MacConnell Kingsbury and Marian Fearon Kingsbury, born August 19, 1925 in New York City. Most of her early life was spent in Central New York, where she attended Sherrill High School, Corning Free Academy, and Syracuse Central High School where she graduated in 1943. This was followed by a degree in Human Development at Syracuse University, and some years later a Master’s in Education. She had been a member Alpha Chapter of Gamma Phi Beta at Syracuse as an undergrad. Very soon after, she married J. Richard Manier, fresh out of the Submarine Service, and on to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute to finish his degree. Life continued to be busy as Dana, Rick, Derek and Gretchen arrived to offer their challenges and blessings. Home went from Syracuse to Toledo and Cleveland, Ohio and later to Westfield, New Jersey; ultimately back to the Syracuse area with a host of adventures at each stop. Jackie would like to be remembered as an enthusiastic primitive camper, with countless canoeing, sailing and campfire experiences shared with her children and Dick. She also looked with pride and pleasure on her many years in Girl Scouts. Her middle years were full of teaching experiences and challenges, ending with 20 years in Fayetteville-Manlius schools. Her special heartfelt commitment to women’s rights, reproductive choice, social justice and prison reform where an integral part of her later years. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years in August of 2010. Her surviving children are Dana Fetterman (Bob) of Mancos, CO, Rick (Sue) of Cazenovia, Derek of Bogata, Columbia and Gretchen Comeau (Rob) of Port Charlotte, FL. She has seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Plymouth Congregational Church, 232 E. Onondaga Street, Syracuse, where Jackie and Dick were married, worshipped, and served in many capacities over the decades. Donations may be made to Plymouth Congregational Church or Planned Parenthood of CNY. Arrangements are with Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel.
