Helen Reals

Obituary of Helen Banas Reals

Helen Banas Reals, age 92 of Saratoga Springs, NY, passed away September 10, 2020. Helen was raised and celebrated her wedding on Rock Cut Road in Jamesville. She never was the typical 1950’s-60’s housewife. Helen was a convention breaker in many ways. She was the first in her family to go to college, she was one of the first female police officers in Los Angeles, CA and the first female deacon at St Lucy’s Parish in Altamont, NY. Helen would never want to miss out on anything. Now she’ll continue on through those of us that loved and treasured her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter Banas and Maria Fialkovic; three brothers, Joseph, Peter and John Banas; four sisters, Mary and Alice who died in childhood, Magdalene Marvin and Ann Pawlak; and her husband of over 60 years, Robert L. Reals Sr. She is survived by her brother, Andrew Banac of Jamesville; two sons, Robert and Nathaniel; three daughters, Gabrielle, Rebecca Love and Sara Bohn: twelve grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She also leaves behind many extended family and friends in Kyjov Slovakia and the USA. Burial will be at St Mary’s Cemetery in DeWitt, 4100 E Genesee Street, Syracuse, NY at 11am on Saturday, September 12, 2020. CDC and NYS guidelines will be followed. A Mass and celebration of her life to be scheduled in 2021. For more info on 2021 event email her family at HelenBReals@gmail.com. In lieu of flowers, donations accepted by her Churches: Holy Cross www.holycrossdewitt.org or St. Lucy https://parishes.rcda.org/StLucyStBernadetteChurch/ Arrangements are with Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel.
