Obituary of John H. Miller, Ph.D.
John Henry Miller, Ph.D. of Syracuse, NY, died peacefully at his home on Thursday, December 10, 2020. He was 87 years old. John was born March 16, 1933, in Washington, D.C. to Mildred Sue (Burnett) and Frank Lewis Miller. John’s father was a chaplain in the US Army who was killed during WW II. A stellar student in Washington, D.C., John was awarded a full scholarship to Yale University from which he ultimately graduated with a Ph.D. in Biology. He came to teach at Syracuse University in the early sixties where he was a full Professor in the Biology Department for many decades. A man of many talents and interests, John was a passionate gardener, an expert woodworker, a devoted amateur recorder player and gifted in painting restoration. He was predeceased by his parents; as well as a brother and sister. He is survived by many nieces and nephews across American; and friends, here, who will miss him dearly. Throughout his life, John gave very generously to numerous charities. In these difficult times, his memory will be served by a donation to the Food Bank of CNY or Meals on Wheels of Syracuse.
