We are so saddened by the passing of a giant of cardiology. We were so fortunate to have him to be part of the Upstate family. We learned so much from him not just in electrocardiograms but in patient care and compassion. Not only was he a mentor, but he was part of the fabric that built the cardiology section of the Department of Medicine. A brilliant man and a passionate cardiologist. He made himself part of the cardiology fellows training not only in the hospital but on the softball field as well. He helped us all appreciate life. He will be missed.

To 'Fru's family -
So sorry to hear of his passing. Such a kind and gentle man, fellow graduate of Albany Med, and Upstate Med colleague.
On my arrival there in 1981, I was assigned the office next to him and remember the impressive piles of journals and papers covering his desk, contrasting to my own [newly arrived] nice clean desk. In spite of good intentions, within the year mine was just as cluttered!
As a rheumatologist, our paths didn't cross much professionally, but he was always there for a quick curbside consult when I had someone with cardiology issues.
After we had both retired, we ran into each other a few years back at Autotech car repair, and while waiting, we talked about his passion for music. I'm happy to make a donation to Symphoria in Fru's memory. The world is a smaller place without him.
With my condolences to you all,
Paul E Phillips MD

A mentor & master of the EKG, he was who you looked to for guidance on reading the tough ones. But more importantly, "The Fru" was the anchor in the middle of the diamond for the Assassins during their glory years. The stories will live on, but his passing is a loss for us all.
