Obituary of Anthony Michael DeBottis, Sr.
Anthony Michael DeBottis, Sr., 91, of Fayetteville, formerly of Jamesville, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2021. Born in Port Byron, New York on October 28, 1929, he was the son of the late Anthony and Rose Marie VanAcora DeBottis. He graduated from Port Byron high school in 1945 and joined the U.S. Army, actively serving from 1948 to 1950 at Fort Belvoir, MD, followed by 3 years in the reserves. Fondly known as Tony by his friends and customers, he owned and operated Tony’s Corner for 45 years. In his earlier years, he took great pride in serving his community, not only through his business, but by being active in community service, serving as President and member of the New York State Dealer's Association, as member and president of the DeWitt Rotary Club, and member and President of the Jamesville DeWitt Board of Education. He was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Jamesville for many years. Anthony was devoted to his family and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid golfer and a passionate SU sports fan. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Norma; three sons, Michael (Virginia) of Georgetown, Joseph (Mary Kay) of LaFayette, and Anthony, Jr. (Jane) of East Syracuse; four daughters, Donna Ambrose (Tom) of Rotonda West, FL, Susan DeBottis-Berger (Ron) of Cary, NC, Carol Newman of Trumansburg, and Barbara Krusko (Marc) of Scottsdale, AZ; brother, Lewis DeBottis (Mafalda) and sister, Philomena Saum of Auburn; 14 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and many cherished nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brother, Peter DeBottis; and sisters, Maria ‘Mary’ Guiffrida, Josephine Christiano, Rose Halstead, Angelina Keenly and Helen Riccio. A celebration of Anthony’s life will be held in early summer. Memorial contributions may be made to the Syracuse VA Medical Center, 800 Irving Avenue, Syracuse, NY 13210.
