Obituary of Marilyn Rose LaChanse

Marilyn Rose LaChanse, 84, of East Syracuse, died peacefully on January 23, 2021 with her family at her side. Marilyn was born in Lyncourt to Eva and Maxwell Russell. She attended St. John the Baptist High School and went on to earn a degree at CCBI. Marilyn worked as a secretary for Hancock Law Firm and later at Touchette. Above all, Marilyn cherished spending time with family and friends, especially the ‘Club’ girls. Marilyn enjoyed playing cards, live theater, music, movies, going out to eat, shopping, reading, skiing, crossword puzzles, talking to friends and family, and was always willing to try something new. She loved to travel and was able to visit many inspiring destinations including Bermuda, Rome, and Australia, along with regular trips to Skaneateles, Margate, NJ, and New York City. Marilyn was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of St. Matthew’s Church. She belonged to a weekly rosary group and volunteered at the church’s 2nd Time Around Store and food pantry. Marilyn is survived by her children, Russ & Heather LaChanse of Brooklyn, NY, Mary & Julio Mercedes of Standwood, WA, Theresa & James Schardt of Liverpool, NY, Elizabeth & Craig Avery of Constantia, NY, and Edward LaChanse Jr. & Rebecca Williams of Fairfax, VA; ten grandchildren, Owen LaChanse, Gabriella & Santos Mercedes-Fernadez, Kristhopher Mercedes, Selena & Mark Mercedes-Pollard, Jailee Mercedes, Clayton Schardt, Julia Avery, and Amanda, Vivan and Carleigh LaChanse; three great grandchildren, Kolton, Gracie Fernadez, and Maxwell Mercedes; two nieces, Heather Greene and Beth & Mark Luffred; and brother, Ron & Carolyn Russell. She was predeceased by her husband, E. Robert LaChanse; and daughter, Amy Rose LaChanse. Her funeral Mass will be held at St. Matthew’s church in East Syracuse on February 12, 2021 at 11 am, followed by interment in White Chapel Memory Gardens in DeWitt. The Mass will be live streamed at CDC and NYS guidelines will be followed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Joseph’s House or St. Matthew’s Food Pantry, 229 W.
