Obituary of Mary Jane Pollman

Mary Jane Pollman, Mary or M.J., 82 of Syracuse, NY, passed away on November 8, 2021, after a short Illness. Mary Jane was born in Port Angeles, WA on January 21, 1939. She graduated from Port Angeles High School and attended junior college while working as a social worker. She grew up near Olympia National Park. She helped her father on guided tour trips into the wilderness, even had a mountain lion crawl into her tent, snuggle up and spend the night. Mary Jane was married to Leonard R Pollman on December 27, 1958; they were married 60 years. They traveled around the United States with Leonard’s profession and made their final home in Syracuse, NY. Mary Jane was a homemaker and also worked in market research for Mary O. Young Associates and Theresa McCarthy Associates for a number of years. She worked at Elhoff Gallery and worked as Hostess at Giovanni’s. M.J. was known for her beauty, generous spirit and kindness, she was good natured, always quick with one liners and wit. She was talented and enjoyed arts and crafts, music and gardening. She also found time to volunteer at Elmcrest Center for Children and St. Andrew's Anglican Church. Mary Jane is survived by Children, Irene J Comstock (Thom), Leonard R. Pollman II (Maria), and Judith E. Pollman; grandchildren, John Lowerly (Emily) and Lauren Bohlen (Taylor); and her beloved cat, Harry. She loved entertaining and cooking for family and friends. Her children’s friends loved M.J.; they became part of the family counting M.J. among their friends as well. Mary Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard R Pollman. Calling hours will be Sunday, November 14, 2021 from 1-3 pm at Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel, 3690 Erie Blvd East, DeWitt, NY, with services immediately following at 3 pm. Father Steve Evans of St Andrew's will be officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to ASPCA or The Humane Society.
