Obituary of Alonzo C. Eldridge

Alonzo Christopher Eldridge, 62, of Syracuse, formerly of Hudson, passed away unexpectedly on December 19, 2021 at Crouse Hospital, due to complications from Covid. His sisters, Alile and Anita were with him during his final days. Alonzo was born October 26, 1959, in Hudson, to Bettie and Albert C. Eldridge, Sr. He was the middle of three children: Albert, Alonzo, and Arnold. His two brothers predeceased him. Alonzo graduated from Hudson High School in 1977. While attending Hudson, he was a member of the tennis team, winning many singles and doubles matches, alongside his brother, Albert. As a youngster, he became an expert downhill recreational skier. Tennis and skiing became life-long passions. Upon graduation, he attended Grand Canyon University, located in Phoenix, Arizona. While there, he was a member of the University’s tennis and basketball teams. Upon completing his studies in 1982, he became a tennis professional and taught tennis to youth in the Bronx. Later, he worked for The Division for Youth in Rochester as a childcare worker. Anyone who knew Alonzo knew that he lived life to the beat of his own drum. He had a big personality, a deep love for his family, unmatched resiliency, and a passion for sports. He will be missed. Alonzo is survived by his son, Jeffrey Grener; sisters, Alile Eldridge and Anita Eldridge Jalloh; nephew, Albert C. Eldridge III; and stepmother, Marjorie Eldridge. A calling hour will be Saturday, January 15, 2022, at 10 am at Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel, 3690 Erie Blvd East, DeWitt, followed by services at 11:00 am
