Obituary of James H. Hughes, Jr.

James H. Hughes, Jr, 84, of Fayetteville, NY, passed away on Dec. 16th after a long prosperous life. A native of Utica, NY he and his family moved to Fayetteville in 1970. Mr. Hughes was a Lieutenant in the Navy serving in the Korean War. He was in the first graduating class of Lemoyne College with a degree in Pre-Med and also graduated from Georgetown University with a degree in Law. He was the Chief Welfare Attorney for Onondaga County and then was in private practice for many years with the Jacobs and Forward Law Offices. He loved Lorton Lake where he spent many days enjoying his friends, Jim “Oscar” Palumbo and his family. He was also an American Revolution buff which provided hours of enjoyment. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Gretchen B. Hughes, his grandson William K. Hughes, Jr. and his sister Carolyn Citriniti. Surviving is his son William K. Hughes, his daughter Kathy Hughes as well as his grandson Donald H. Hughes and two great grandchildren Gavin and Jasmine Hughes; several nieces and nephews, his sister Barbara Byrne of New Hartford and his companion Alyce McNamara. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM Saturday at Holy Cross Church DeWitt, NY. Friends may call 4-7 PM Friday at the Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel 3690 Erie Blvd. E.
