Obituary of Isabel G Riegel

Isabel G. Riegel Obituaries Isabel “Izzy” Grover Riegel, 87, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully on November 26. A Syracuse native, she lived most of her life in the Syracuse area. Izzy graduated from Syracuse University in Physical Therapy and was a proud member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She worked as a physical therapist during the polio epidemic, then returned to Syracuse University earning a M.S. in Education. She taught for 21 years in Fayetteville-Manlius schools and touched countless lives. Many of her students still remember her fondly. She shared her boundless energy and enthusiasm with many and after retirement remained active with her friends and in organizations such as Pebble Hill Church, Literacy Volunteers, and Oasis. She loved the Adirondacks and Big Moose Lake and spent many summers there throughout her life, including the last 17 with her extended family. She embraced life and was filled with a wonder of all things. She enjoyed learning, music, traveling, and sports (especially sailing, football, and Syracuse basketball). She cherished all people, especially her family to whom she was a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother. She is preceded in death by her sister Dorothy Owens and husband of 45 years, Ken. Izzy is survived by her three children, Brad (Kim) Riegel of Birmingham, AL , Susan (Mark) Bohlman of Baltimore, MD, and Linda (John) Geariety of Chittenango and six grandchildren, Justin and Natalie Riegel, Stephen, Christopher, and Jennifer Bohlman, and Megan Geariety. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday January 11 at Pebble Hill Presbyterian Church 5299 Jamesville Rd. DeWitt, with a reception to follow.
